Anna Amelia Slagle was born January 8, 1893 in Oakridge, Pennsylvannia. She later lived in Beautiful Look Out which was later named, New Bethlehem, Pennsylvannia. She was born to Christena Holben Slagle (04/05/1872 - 02/1942) and James Loumes Slagle (10/08/1871 - June 1959). Her father, James, was mostly employed as a miner. His son-in-law, Boyd, remembers him as a "big tease", that he liked to wrestle every year on his birthday, and could kick as high as his head.
